How does the Mosquito/Midge Magnet work?

The Midge Magnet is the first real solution to the problem of midges and mosquitoes. Unlike other midge repellants the Mosquito Magnet works by providing a whole new concept, instead of deterring them it attracts and kills them. The process is ingeniously simple yet is without doubt the only truly effective means of guaranteeing a midge free garden! The unit emits a combination of CO2 gas from an attached canister with pheromones. It’s this combination that initially attracts the midge to a human, specifically the female midge which is the only midge that actually bites.

What happens the midge has been attracted by the Midge Magnet?

This concoction attracts the midge or mosquito towards the device and once near the source uses a simple vacuum to suck the midge into an enclosure on the unit. This compartment is heated and the midge is unable to escape, it slowly dehydrates and perishes. From here the compartment can simply be empty and the deceased midges disposed of. The fan that emits the attractant covers a wide area ensuring that any nearby midges fly towards the midge magnet as opposed to individuals in the garden. By only attracting the female midge it is twice as effective, removing the fear of being bitten but also preventing the midge’s reproduction!

Is the Midge Magnet safe to use in my garden?

The simple design and technology behind the midge magnet means unlike other deterrents it is completely safe for children and pets, with no open flame or similar danger. The pheromone emitted is Octenol, a naturally occurring organic compound that is in perfect harmony with the nature of your garden. As well as its effective midge killing ability this level of safety is the other main reason why the midge magnet is the perfect solution for a garden or patio!

How much does the Mosquito Magnet cost to run?

Using replaceable canisters of CO2 and pheromones it is also a very cost effective solution. It can operate 24 hours a day for 21 days on a single 20lb propane tank. While it can be used as a temporary deterrent whilst outdoors it can also be used as a more permanent solution. By leaving the unit running (which is virtually silent!) it will permanently rid your area of its midge and mosquito population, preventing the entire breeding cycle. It is so effective it is already used by the US military, department of agriculture and the centre for disease control!

What models of Midge Magnet are available?

There are four models of the midge magnet currently available through Indigo Leisure. Two are mains powered whilst two are powered by a rechargable battery The latter is especially suitable for gardens or other areas where mains power is not a viable option. They work via a simple catalytic converter generating energy from the CO2 output of the attached canister. These two models are the Mosquito Magnet Pro and the Mosquito Magnet Liberty Plus. The corded variety works from mains power, ideal for areas with accessible power supplies such as patios.This model is the Mosquito Magnet Defender.
